Nigerian Army 2Div donates sanitation materials to traders at Ojoo ••
The Nigerian Army 2Divison, Odogbo Ibadan has donated some cleaning and environmental sanitation items to the management of Ojoo market, Ibadan as parts of efforts to promote clean and hygiene environment.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Chukwunedum Abraham who presented the items to the market leaders yesterday through the Chief of Staff 2Div, Brigder General Felix Omoigui said the effort would also go along way in ensuring good health and keep sickness away from the traders and people within and around the market vicinity.
Speaking while making the presentation, Major General Abraham said the effort is part of the 2017 Annual Army Day celebration which started some days ago and which also recognised the need to include sanitation as one of the activities to commemorate the occasion.
He described cleanliness as what can put an end to all sickness calling on the traders to make sure they clean the environment always. He urged them to make good use of the items and stop dumping refuse indiscriminately on the street.
He said: “Without cleanliness, we may run into many problems. It is necessary to partner with you and that we have done by donating some items for your good use”
He also use the opportunity of the event to call for more collaborative support and partnership with the security outfit to ensure better security of the nation.
“I will implore you all to continue to work and cooperate with the Nigerian Army in discharge of our duties. Security requires collective efforts.
“That is why you as market men and women needs to join hands with the Nigerian Army by making sure you report any crime or suspected criminals to the security agencies”, the GOC said.
In his lecture, the Commander, Medical Hospital Services 2Division Lt. Col. Samuel Adama explained that improper waste disposal causes air pollution, water pollution, and could lead to diseases such as diarrhoea which is dangerous for healthy living.
He however spoke extensively on landfill method, incineration recycling method and plasma gasification as proper means of disposing waste while recommending ways out for indiscriminate refuse disposal.
Meanwhile the wives of Army officers Association
(NAOWA) donated foods and clothing items to 67 widows of deceased military personnels
In her speech, NAOWA President, who is also the wife of GOC 2Division Mrs. Rhoda Abraham said the effort is in line with the vision of the National President of the Association, Mrs. Buratai whom she said had provided quality education, health care services and vocational skills to the wives and families of solider and officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
She stressed that the Association cannot forget in a hurry the numerous contributions made by the fallen soldiers to sustain the territorial integrity and unity of the nation.
“It is true that you cannot buy happiness just the way you can buy commodity from the shelve of the supermarket. We know that happiness comes from within and one can only secure a measure of happiness by his or her own acts.
