Alexis Sanchez’s response when a teammate asked if he will stay at Arsenal ••
Arsenal fans are probably counting down the days until the end of the transfer window.
As it stands, they’re probably very happy with how things have gone with the signings of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
Of course, Gooners would probably want a few more additions between now and September but they would probably sacrifice any further arrivals if it meant they kept hold of all of their star players.
The biggest worry for Arsenal right now is undoubtedly Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean has just 12 months remaining on his contract and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.
What Arsenal fans want is the forward to just come out and pledge his future to the club – something that Mesut Ozil seemingly did earlier this week.
But there’s been noticeable silence from Sanchez as he takes an extended break after his Confederations Cup exploits.
And that same silence was his response when a teammate asked him about his future at the end of last season.
What Sanchez did when asked about his future
In a report in The Guardian, David Hytner explained Sanchez’s situation in detail. And he begins his piece with something that happened towards the end of last season involving an unnamed Arsenal player and Sanchez.
“At the end of last season, Alexis Sánchez was approached by an Arsenal team-mate who wanted to know what was happening with the striker’s new contract. ‘Are you going to stay with us next season?’ he asked. Sanchez barely broke stride and completely blanked him,” Hytner wrote.
Not the sort of response that will give Arsenal fans too much hope.
Neither will Sanchez’s comment on his future when he was on Confederations Cup duty.
“It’s clear but I can’t tell you anything,” he said before he faced Germany in the final of the tournament.
All signs are pointing towards Sanchez’s departure this summer but, until it’s officially confirmed, Arsenal supporters will be praying that he decides to stay – even if it’s just for one more season.
