Antonio Conte has hinted he was unhappy with Chelsea sanctioned the summer departures of youngsters Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah.
The Italian manager has enduring summer having struggled to bring in most of his primary targets after seeing his former star Nemanja Matic depart to Premier League rival Manchester United against his will desire.
Chelsea lost their Premier League opening game with a shock 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge to Burnley after both Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill was sent off during the encounter they will miss this Sunday tie against Spurs.
Chelsea coach Conte will be forced to shuffle his pack again ahead of the Wembley showdown and could have utilized the likes of Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah had they not been allowed to leave for Crystal Palace and Watford, respectively.
Asked whether he regretted their departures, Conte bluntly responded: ‘Another question, please.’
Pressed on whether he would be more open to giving young players a chance this season, he added: ‘If you remember last season I utilised different young players.
‘Don’t forget Ake, Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek. And also Kenedy and Aina as well. I think for a club like Chelsea if I have the opportunity to have players ready to play I’m the first person to be happy.
‘But I repeat the players need to grow in the right way or you risk damage to them and the club.’
