Who knows, maybe you don’t want to turn on the oven during the hot days or maybe you just don’t have an oven. Who said that you can’t have a cake in this case?

There are some interesting techniques that will allow you to make a cake without an oven. You can use the pressure cooker, the steamer method, the stove top method. You can even microwave your cake in a cup!

Today, we gathered two quite easy recipes for you, so let the cake making begins!

How to bake cake without oven – a Cup Cake!

Yes, that’s right, a cup cake or a cake in a cup! We bet you’ve heard about this one – it is indeed quite popular. It will take only about 10 minutes and you will have a nice dessert to eat while drinking your tea or coffee.

Ingredients for the cake in a cup

You don’t need a lot to make this tasty and sweet “cup cake.” Just a few ingredients and about 10 minutes of your time. And you will also need a microwave.

– 50 g of baking mix;

– 15g of sugar;

– 25 g of raisins, chocolate chips, nuts or sprinkles (optional);

– 40g of milk.

Baking mix

It is a good idea to prepare the baking mix in advance because there are a lot of recipes that require it. Don’t worry if you don’t have the baking mix. It is easy to prepare it, and we will teach you how to do it. For about 7 cups of the baking mix, you will need:

– 3 tablespoons of baking powder

– 6 cups of all-purpose flour;

– 1 tablespoon of salt;

– ¾ cup of shortening or butter.

How to make baking mix for cake

baking mix1. Take a big bowl. Sift the baking powder, flour, and salt into it. Mix them well.

2. Take the shortening and cut it with a fork into the mixture.

3. Combine everything. The texture of the mixture has to be similar to the texture of cornmeal.

Important note: You can also make a chocolate cake by adding cocoa powder to the butter. If you want to do this, then use only 25 g of baking mix and add 25g of cocoa powder instead. Also, remember to add more sugar and milk. You will need about 50 g of milk and 25 g of sugar. Consider using a big mug, you don’t want to lose the batter!

The process of making the cake in the cup

Adding nuts1. Take a mug that is microwave-safe. Place the baking mix and sugar into the cup and mix them well.

2. Then add the milk. Make sure to add it slowly and mix everything together step by step. If you add all the milk at once, there might be some lumps of baking mix left.

3. Make sure that the mug is deep enough for your mixture. There should be at least 2.5 cm between the top of the mug and the top of the batter. If there is too much of the mix, the cake batter will spill over during the baking process.

4. Add the raisins or chocolate chips, but make sure to rinse out the raisins before adding them to the batter. Stir the batter and make sure that your filling is evenly distributed.

5. Cover the mug with plastic wrap and place it in the microwave. Bake it on full power for 60 seconds or until the center of the cake is set.

Important note: If you don’t know how to set your microwave on full power, then check the cake after the first 60 seconds of baking. If the center is set, then take it out. If not, bake the cake in 10 seconds intervals until it’s done.

6. After 60 seconds, check the cake. Insert a toothpick in the center. It should come out clean. If the cake is not ready, do as advised in the important note above.

7. Take off the plastic wrap. You can try to place the cake on a plate by using your knife to take the cake out of the mug. Or you can eat it right away from the mug. Decorate it with powdered sugar, chocolate syrup, sprinkles or whipped cream. Don’t forget to make yourself some tea or coffee!

How to bake cake without oven – A steam marbled cake

Steamed marble cakeAnother great answer to the question “how to bake without oven at home?”. The next recipe will require more equipment. You will need a steamer! It will take about 30 to 45 minutes to “bake” the cake.

The ingredients for the steam marbled cake

– 30 ml of cocoa powder;

– 2 large eggs;

– 180 g of self-rising flour;

– 120 ml of milk;

– 150 g of sugar;

– 112 g of butter;

– 1 ½ tablespoon of vanilla extract.

1. Take a big stockpot and fill it with 5 to 8 cm water.

2. Place it on the stove, on high heat. Leave it to boil.

3. Reduce the heat to medium and place a steamer basket inside. Remember that the basket should not touch the boiling water. Cover the stockpot with a lid, so the water won’t evaporate while you are preparing the cake.

When your steamer is ready, it is time to make the cake!

1. Take a baking pan and coat it with butter or oil. Make sure that it is well covered. Flour the sides and the bottom of the pan.

2. Take a big mixing bowl. Add the butter and sugar. Beat them with a mixer for 5-7 minutes, on high speed. The mixture has to be light and creamy.

Sugar and butter3. Crack the eggs into the butter. Make sure to crack one egg, beat it thoroughly and then add the other.

Important note: You can also use small eggs instead of large ones. But you will need to use three.

4. When everything is thoroughly beaten, add one-third of the flour. Mix well.

5. Add half of the milk you need and beat again until the mixture is evenly combined.

6. Again, add one-third of the remaining flour, mix it well and add the remaining milk. Add the rest of the flour and beat until everything is well combined at there are no lumps remaining.

7. Add the vanilla extract to the batter. Beat the mixture and make sure that the vanilla is incorporated.

batter8. Take another bowl and pour one fourth of the batter into it. Put the bowl with the rest of the batter aside.

9. Add the cocoa powder to one fourth of the batter. Mix the cocoa powder into the batter with mixer set to low speed. Make sure there are no lumps of cocoa powder.

10. Take the bowl with the vanilla batter and pour it into the pan.

11. Pour the cocoa batter into the chocolate batter. Don’t pour it into one spot, drizzle it. Use a knife to carefully swirl the batters. It will eventually create the marbled effect. Experiment with it but be careful! You don’t want to mix to hard. If you do a lot of mixing, you will mix the batters together and you will get a brown colored cake instead of a marble cake.

Marble cake12. Take a piece of aluminum foil and cover the cake pan. Make sure that the top is covered tightly. Fold the foil under the pan.

Important note: It is essential to cover the cake pan tightly. Any excess moisture from the steamer will ruin your cake. Also, be careful with the steamer, it will be hot when you lift the lid.

13. Carefully place the cake in the center of the steam rack. Cover your steamer with a lid. Cook the cake for at least 30 minutes. Don’t lift the lid while cooking!

14. After 30 minutes of cooking, check the cake by inserting a toothpick in the middle. It has to clean. If it is not clean, leave the cake for additional 10 minutes and check again.

Marble cake15. When the cake is ready, remove it from the steamer. Again, be careful! Leave it cool for at least 10 minutes.

16. Place the cake on a plate and decorate it with whipped cream, chocolate or anything you want. Eat and enjoy!
